AMP Pearl successfully completed a multi-million
pound data migration contract with data transformation specialist
firm Kognitio. This major initiative formed part of a wider
strategic transformation program, being developed by AMP in
the UK.
In order to minimise costs and increase efficiency,
AMP(UK) decided to consolidate the various systems and thereby
reduce the number of IT platforms. It was decided to initially
concentrate on one of the oldest administration systems OLD
OB, from which to migrate both Unit Linked business totalling
60,000 live policies and Conventional business with 340,000
live policies.
CLOAS was chosen as the strategic administration
platform on which to migrate the data as it had undergone
significant enhancements since the 1980's and had become reliable,
cost effective, flexible and proven. In addition, various
interfaces needed to be considered, including AMP Pearl's
customer database system.
The Migration
AMP Pearl recognised that the best way to deliver a solution
on time and within budget was to use a data migration specialist
with expertise in the financial services market.
With a successful track record of several large-scale
data transformation projects within the financial services
market, Kognitio was already known to AMP Pearl as a company
with the necessary financial service experience.

The Project
Kognitio's consultancy division initially assisted AMP Pearl
in formulating a detailed strategic Data Migration plan. This
took several weeks to complete and involved a series of workshops
and one-to-one interviews. The resulting report formed the
basis of a successful presentation to the Board to obtain
funding for the project.
Such a major data migration initiative demands
close co-operation between all the relevant personnel.
