Kognitio launches high-value Business Intelligence solutions and educational webinars for retail, leisure and hospitality

Cost-effective BI solutions harness the power of WX2 analytical database and give marketing and customer development professionals true insight into their business operations

Marlow, United Kingdom - 16th August 2007 - Kognitio, a leading provider of business intelligence (BI) and data warehousing solutions, today announced a new offering that allows retail, leisure and hospitality organisations to build cost-effective, high-value BI environments in order to facilitate increased sales and reduced operating costs. Named "BI - Building the right environment", Kognitio is targeting the new programme specifically at companies that can not analyse their data quickly enough in order to support business development decisions. Consequently, Kognitio today also announced a series of webinars targeted at operators in these industries, taking place on Thursday 6th September 2007 at 10:00am and 2:00pm UK time.

Kognitio's new BI solution aims to help retailers as well as operators of hotels, bars, pubs, restaurants and coffee houses migrate operational and transactional data to a single repository and give users, from management to outlet level, access to the right information at the right time, thus allowing them to gain insight into which events, changes, behaviour and circumstances impact costs, revenue and margin. As a result of this intelligence, businesses can then drive growth, performance, competitive advantage and ultimately, profits.

"Retailers as well as leisure and hospitality organisations are notoriously bad at understanding their entire business and the effect that promotions, customers' buying habits or staffing have on it," explains Roger Llewellyn, CEO at Kognitio. "Operational and transactional systems such as stock management, ERP and POS exist in isolation from other applications and many of their users often try to carry out analysis based on data from different data sources. Such an approach tends to lead to unreliable findings and inaccurate conclusions. In the extremely competitive marketplace of retailing, leisure and hospitality, organisations need to have a complete understanding of their businesses if they are to succeed in the long run.

Recently, Kognitio helped a leisure and hospitality company by uniting their sales and floor staff data, thus saving them £100,000 per month, savings that go straight to the bottom line."

By harnessing the power of Kognitio's WX2 analytical database software and third-party BI reporting tools, Kognitio allows companies to run a suite of analytical reports based around the core metrics of sales, labour, margins, customers, EBITDA, forecasting and environment. More importantly, Kognitio allows users to not only see the results, but to drill down and ask the question "why is that?" of any data that is presented.

"Typically, when a retailer wants to understand the effect of a store promotion on margin, EBITDA, labour and sales, many marketing and finance departments have to engage with business analysts who say that they will come back with the answer to the question weeks later. That's because they need to pull together data from various sources, which is a lengthy process," comments Nigel Sanctuary, BI propositions manager at Kognitio.

"Kognitio's BI solutions give organisations immediate access to their entire business data; users can ask questions of their data they never thought were possible such as 'What is the correlation between sales and labour in all my stores?' 'What was the effect of those ten promotions that we ran last week on sales?' 'Who is buying what and when?' These are just a few of the questions that marketing, finance and customer insight managers within retailers and leisure companies can now ask and get answers to."

Kognitio's BI programme "BI - Building the right environment" for retail, leisure and hospitality operators is available now and is based on a consultative approach. Kognitio will work with organisations to identify their business needs and then deliver a complete bespoke BI solution.
