CaMIS
CaMIS, the
Customer and Management Information System, is a predefined
relational data warehouse model, specifically designed
for the insurance and financial services industry.
| |
CaMIS is at the leading
edge of warehouse design, offering an evolutionary approach to the
new business challenges of event-driven marketing, real-time web sales
and customer-focused analysis.
New business initiatives give rise to new information requirements.
The inherent flexibility of the CaMIS model allows it to support
the unique information elements of an organisation and to provide
a comprehensive, integrated view of both internally and externally
generated information.
CaMIS holds historical information, enabling the in-depth analysis
of trends and behavioural patterns in such key areas as customer
purchasing behaviour or product trends.
Major Components
CaMIS is a relational data model consisting of three main components:
- The conceptual model,
which defines all major subject areas within the insurance and
financial services industry, along with their relationships;
- The
logical model, which builds on the conceptual model and defines
business entities, attributes and relationships in a comprehensive
metadata catalogue;
- The
physical model, which can be implemented on a range of relational
database management systems such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server,
DB2 and Sybase.
A comprehensive data dictionary is also provided.
Two-Tier Data Warehousing Framework
The CaMIS relational warehouse provides an organisation
with a single, consistent view of the information that it collects
through its administration systems, eBusiness or client-centric
communications channels, with derived data marts providing
subject-specific analysis areas. DFTK Match and Merge, a related
Kognitio product, ensures that a centralised single customer
view is maintained across all an organisation’s data. |

Implementation
Implementation times for the tried and tested CaMIS model can be
measured in months, rather than years, thereby significantly reducing
the overall costs of initiatives. The modular nature of CaMIS allows
phased implementation, with projects that improve the bottom-line
profitability of an organisation being implemented first.
The experience gained in developing the model with
major insurance and financial services companies, over a ten year
period, ensures that implementation risks are minimised and opportunities
for success are maximised. The inherent flexibility of the model
also ensures that new business initiatives in the future can be handled
with confidence within the same warehouse structure.
